Mother Mary the Mother of Roses is the Spiritual Mother

“Two women whose lives are bound together by God’s design, joyfully great one another, Elizabeth praises Mary for being the mother of the Lord. Mary responds with words of a humble servant in the canticle commonly called the magnificat.

The feast of the visitation of Mary is celebrated, to recall the great truth and events of blessed Virgin Mary’s, visit to her cousin Elizabeth, shortly after the Annunciation.

The month of Mary was referred to special Marian devotions, considered also as the “Queen of Mary”, where as a month long devotion with recitation of the rosary and prayers were offered, requesting Mary’s intercession to God in prayer.

To salute Mother Mary on this occasion, Holy Eucharistic was celebrated in the school main hall of Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy by Rev. Fr. Soosainathan on the 31st of May 2017.

The flower adorned chariot of Mother Mary was carried out by the Rose Virgini Club, The Legion of Mary, Catholic and Non Catholic teachers and Captains and Prefects.

The solemn procession among the showers of colourful flowers sprinkled by the students was led by the school band and a Rosary proceeded to the main hall.

The crowning of Mother Mary was done by the School Head Girl. Thus resembling “The crown of righteousness”, “the crown of life” and “the crown of glory”, that Mother Mary had won throughout her life.

The atmosphere was with fragrant with colourful flowers and festoons offered to Our Lady by students.

The recitation of the Rosary done by each class resembled the love and devotion of students towards their spiritual mother.
