The Welcome of the Grade 1 Students for the Year 2018



Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy warmly welcomed it’s new Grade 1 students for the academic year 2018, on the 9th of January.

The Grade 2 students dressed as colourful parrots welcomed their new Shepherdian sisters with a flower symbolizing love and warmth.

The faces of the new Shepherdians were lit with joy and excitement to begin this new chapter of their lives at Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy.

As per tradition the new Shepherdians offered Betel leaves and worshiped their new teachers.

The function took place at St. Euphrasia’s Hall (the Main Hall) with the presence of the Chief Guest Rev. Fr. Ivan Jayasundara, the Parish Priest of St. Anthony’s Cathedral, who was accompanied by Rev. Sr. Mary Princy Mendis – Superior, Rev. Sr. Chandrika Perera – the Principal, Rev. Sr. Dilrukshika Silva -the Primary Sectional Head and the Stream Heads.

The opening of the function was marked with a prayer service conducted by Rev. Fr. Ivan Jayasundara.

The welcome programme was a combination of all 3 traditions performed in various categories such as drama, dance and song.

The shared experience of two girls, on their first day at school and many other eye catching performances, by the youngsters lit up the stage.

The Principal, Rev. Sr. Chandrika Perera addressed the gathering and a booklet containing her speech was also distributed among the audience.

A final speech was delivered on the importance of studying at Good Shepherd Convent by Dr. Varuni Samarasinghe a parent and a distinguished Past Pupil of this School.

The displaying of a Power Point presentation on the Good Shepherd Congregation concluded the events.
