The Annual Inter-House Athletic Sports Meet 2017

The annual inter-house athletic sports meet of Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy was held on the 17th of January 2017 at the Bogambara Stadium, Kandy. The Chief Guest was the Chief Minister of Central Province, Hon. Sarath Ekanayake. The Guest of Honour were Rt. Rev. Dr. Vianney Fernando – Bishop of Kandy and Very Rev. Fr. Milroy Fonseka – Vicar General and Manager of Catholic Schools of Kandy Diocese.

The event started off with the releasing of pigeons and balloons representing the five houses, symbolizing peace and harmony. The opening ceremony included a dance – the ‘Hansa Wannama’ which was followed by many other events. Some of the highlights were a ballet conveying patience, tolerance and unity among different religions, a colourful drill display performed by the 5 houses, a combined performance by the Eastern and Western bands creating an orchestra and finally an unusual squad display followed by the marchpast.

St. Lucias came first and St. Brigids came for the 2nd successive year. St. Brigids came first in both the Marchpast and the drill display.

Individual Championships were won by the following students.

Under 15 – Taniya Wedikkara
Under 17 – Stephnie Fernando
Under 19 – Nethmi Hapuarachchi
Under 21 – Verna Adikaram and Natasha Perera
