“Kalarthana”, the Tamil Cultural Day organized by the Tamil Literary Association of Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy, was held on the 16th of July 2025, Wednesday, in the school main hall with elegance and cultural vibrancy.
Mrs. Anne Yalini Satheeswaran, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Tamil, Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She delivered an inspiring address centered on this year’s theme, “Women Empowerment”, with a special focus on the portrayal of women in Tamil literature.
Students from Grades 6 to 13 took the stage with enthusiasm, showcasing their talents through traditional dances, songs, and drama—all celebrating the richness of Tamil culture and the strength of women throughout history.
The highlight of the morning was the literary drama, “Ravaneson Koothu”, depicting the epic tale of Ravanan’s defeat by Raman—symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. A captivating skit highlighting the role of women in society further added depth to the theme and left a lasting impression on the audience.
The event was a meaningful celebration of language, literature, and identity.
